Aviation and cosmonautics day

11.04.2018

On April 12, 1961, the whole world was shocked by the news of the beginning of a new era of space flights. On this day, the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin flew around the planet Earth on an orbital spacecraft "Vostok". Up to this point, there were launches into space of artificial satellites, but on this day man first conquered space. This was a huge breakthrough in the history of cosmonautics and today there are thousands of satellites in space, spacecraft landed on the moon and Venus, and active study of the Solar system began.

The first flight of man was the most difficult and dangerous, but the desire to conquer the space of many thousands of people who took part in the preparation of the flight, overcame all obstacles. In honor of this historic event, April 12 is celebrated around the world as the world day of aviation and cosmonautics.

Space flights have opened for mankind the opportunity to look at Earth from the side, better study it. Using satellite imagery remote sensing of the Earth, a lot of tasks in science and technology, industry and agriculture are being solved, as well as created high-precision maps.

On this day we have prepared a small selection of space images, made from Russian spacecraft.
