Honored Worker of Geodesy and Cartography of the Russian Federation, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, member of the Union of Writers of Russia Viktor Romanovich Yashchenko completes work on his new book. Its working title is "Surveyors at the edge of the Earth".

"The collection of stories based on my diary entries describes real events that took place during geodetic surveys on the outskirts of Russia: Taimyr, Yamal, Kamchatka, Wrangel Island, Cape Dezhnev. There we worked, sometimes balancing on the brink of life and death. I dedicate a new book to surveyors, topographers, cartographers, geographers and all readers interested in expeditions to little-studied areas of our vast Homeland," Viktor Romanovich said on the eve of the Day of Geodesy and Cartography Workers.

The names of the stories speak for themselves: "The village that disappeared from the maps", "The Unknown plateau of Putorana", "To Dixon without food", "A bear per kilometer", "Measurements at the edge of the Earth", "Lykov Huts on maps", "Disturbing radiogram", "Shamanic Yaranga", "Adventure on Wrangel", "The Mystery of the lost map", "Barely got out of the ice", "Meeting on the edge of the cliff", "Resurrected topographer".

The new book will be illustrated with a series of 40 black-and-white photographs, vividly telling about the significant moments of the difficult field life of specialists, whose labors and perseverance created the geodetic network and topographic maps of our country.

According to Yashchenko, while work on the material continues, the release date of the new collection of short stories will be announced additionally.

To date, Viktor Romanovich has already published 33 books containing a total of more than 800 stories. There are no fictional characters in Yashchenko's memoirs - all the events took place in reality, and some of the heroes of the stories continue to work in the industry at the present time. Yaschenko sees his mission in an accurate description of the heroic work of cartographers and surveyors, in perpetuating their feat for history and the younger generation.
