Exhibition dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the Military Topographic Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation

21.02.2022

The exhibition dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the Military Topographic Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation opened in the reading room of the scientific and Technical library of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center for Geodesy, Cartography and IPD".

The history of the Service is represented by personalities who served the development of the military topography of the Russian Empire and their scientific works, as well as rare publications, aerial photo albums and rare maps. Some publications stored in the scientific and technical library of the Institution have reached our time in a single copy, such as the unique book "Calculating the surface of Asian Russia in the reign of Emperor Nicholas II" with the autograph of the legendary cartographer, Chairman of the Russian Geographical Society, Lieutenant General Yuli Shokalsky.

The activity of Russian military topographers is inseparable from the history of our country. Travelers and mountaineers, mathematicians and astronomers, boundary-workmen, inventors and mechanics, engineers and aviators, engravers and photographers have contributed to the study of the territories and landscapes of Russia, which years later was reflected in the historical exhibits presented.

The exhibition will last until the end of June 2022.
