The Day of the Military Topographer was established by Order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation No. 395 in 2003, and was timed to coincide with the publication in the Russian Empire on February 8, 1812 of the "Regulations for Military Topography". Then, according to the Regulations, the first Military Topographic Service in Russia was created.
Nowadays, in the era of digital technologies, military topographers solve the most important strategic tasks, being responsible for the preparation of topogeodetic and navigation information at the highest technological level for the management of automated systems and precision weapons, making a huge contribution to ensuring the combat capability, defense and security of Russia.
